Mel Buckingham, MA, LPCA
Hello! My name is Mel, and I am a Professional Counselor Associate with a collaborative and person-centered approach to care.
I think therapy should be supportive, warm, and practical. Many of the clients I work with are young adults navigating major life transitions, people struggling with depression or self-esteem, individuals with disordered eating, and those feeling stuck in unhealthy patterns around food, body image, and self-worth. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, develop tools that are useful in day-to-day life, and build a more compassionate and grounded relationship with yourself.
My approach is informed by a variety of modalities, including CBT, DBT, psychodynamic theory, narrative therapy, and feminist therapy. My background in English has strongly informed my interest in narrative therapy and storytelling, particularly in how people make meaning of their experiences and rewrite internal narratives that no longer serve them. I work to pay attention not only to thoughts and behaviors, but also to underlying emotional patterns, lived experiences, and the broader systems that shape how we see ourselves. I aim to meet you where you are, tailoring therapy to each individual rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all.
I strive to create a therapeutic space that feels respectful, honest, and grounded, where people can explore difficult topics while also gaining clarity, stability, and confidence over time
I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling from Northwestern University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Central University.
